Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brilliant hat-trick as Juventus produced a stunning Champions League ‘Remontada’, winning 3-0 at home against Atletico Madrid to progress to the quarter-finals 3-2 on aggregate.
A VAR review had denied Chiellini a fourth-minute opener, but Ronaldo’s first header of the game in the 27th minute gave the Old Lady hope, with the Portuguese rising highest to pull Juve level in the tie in the 49th minute.
Federico Bernardeschi, excellent on the night and already with an assist, drove into the penalty area and was brought down by Angel Correa, with Ronaldo stepping up to smash the spot-kick into the left corner with four minutes left, and once again put paid to Atletico Madrid’s Champions League hopes.
The former Real Madrid ace has now scored 25 goals against Atletico in his career, with his latest treble denying Los Colchoneros the chance to play in this season’s final at their Wanda Metropolitano home.
