A Grade I Area Court in Karshi, Abuja, on Wednesday, sentenced a 27-year old painter, Barnabas Coleman, to one month in prison for receiving two stolen car batteries.
The convict, who also claimed to be a mechanic, had pleaded guilty to dishonestly receiving stolen property but begged for leniency.
The judge, Muhammed Anas, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N3,000 and ordered the police to return the recovered car batteries to the rightful owner.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Ayotunde Adeyanju, had told the court that the complainant, Alex Nwosu, filed the case at the Karu Police Station on April 8.
Adeyanju said that during police investigation, the convict confessed to receiving two stolen car batteries from two suspects: Simon Samuel and John Alias.
He said that the stolen batteries were recovered from the convict.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 317 of the Penal code.
