The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has finally issued former Imo governor, Rochas Okorocha, a certificate of return for winning the February 23 Senatorial election in Imo West.
INEC had refused to recognise Okorocha’s victory, alleging that it was procured under duress.
Ivotesng.com reports that the former governor was not accredited by the National Assembly management to attend the inauguration on Tuesday morning and denied entry to the National Assembly by the management as he had not been issued a certificate of return
In May, Justice Njemanze of the Owerri High Court further strengthened INEC’s position when he ordered the Commission not to issue a Certificate of Return to any of the candidates that contested the Imo West Senatorial District election.
However, Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja came to Okorocha’s rescue last week, ordering INEC to release the certificate to Okorocha
