Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has lambasted former President Olusegun Obasanjo for failure to honour MKO Abiola during his time as president.
Fayose, who took to his verified Twitter handle to commend President Muhammadu Buhari for making the historic move, said the ego of Obasanjo prevented him from honouring MKO Abiola while he was in office.
According to the former governor, it “is to Obasanjo’s shame,” the greatest beneficiary of the June 12, 1993 struggle, that President Buhari did what he failed to do.
In his exact words: “Honouring MKO Abiola by @MBuhari is to Obasanjo’s shame. It remains a sore-point of his political history that because of ego, Obasanjo, who’s the greatest beneficiary of the June 12, 1993 struggle failed to honour his kinsman, MKO Abiola. So, I commend President Buhari.”
Ivotesng.com recalls that on June 6, 2018, President Buhari-led Federal Government declared June 12 to be the new Democracy day.
To further honour the agreed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Buhari conferred the title of GCFR on him in 2018, and renamed the National Stadium after the late Abiola during the inaugural June 12 Democracy day celebration this year.
