Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has revealed that his team had a plan against South Africa, worked it to perfection, following the team’s 2-1 win over South Africa in the quarter finals of the African Cup of Nations.
Fan favorite Samuel Chukwueze gave the Nigerians the lead in the first half, before Bongani Zungu levelled for South Africa following a VAR decision.
Defender William Troost-Ekong bundled in the winner in the dying minutes of the game.
Rohr, speaking to reporters after the match, hailed his players for sticking to the plan, as well as the home support for supporting the Eagles.
“We had a plan and we knew South Africa would find it hard to replicate their performance against Egypt so we had a slight advantage.
“We are happy with the win and now we must recover in time for our next opponents.
“The support from the home fans was fantastic but my players also showed good attitude and we played very well in the first half which also gave them something to cheer about.
“I hope they continue to support us in the tournament.”
