The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress has adopted direct method of primary election to pick the candidate of the party ahead of the November 16 poll.
The APC in a statement by it’s spokesperson, Lanre Issa-Onilu, also announced that the Bayelsa State governorship primary election has been postponed till Saturday.
This is a departure from Thursday earlier fixed for the election.
The statement said, “The party has also adopted the direct mode of primary in line with the written request of the Bayelsa State chapter and majority of the stakeholders.
“This is in compliance with the decision of the APC National Executive Committee, which grants state chapters and majority of party leaders in a state the right to decide on the mode of primary they wish to adopt.”
Meanwhile, a State High Court sitting in Yenagoa has granted an interim order restraining the APC from adopting direct primary for the rescheduled August 31 governorship primary.
Justice E. G Omukoro granted the order upon hearing a motion ex parte.
The applicants are Japan Christopher, Evinson Oyindeyinfa, Oddu Ovinmiebi and Obiriki Isaiah.
