Edo Specialist Hospital: Protesters Storm EFCC, Demand Oshiomhole’s Arrest, Prosecution

Members of the Alliance for Collective Progress (ACP) yesterday stormed the Benin Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Edo state in protest with a call on the anti graft agency to prosecute former Governor of the state and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. The protesters with placards of various inscriptions urged operatives of the EFCC to arrest and orosecute Oshiomhole for alleged failure to procure key equipment needed for smooth operation at the multi billion Edo Specialist Hospital built by his government and commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari.Spokesperson for the group, Nehemiah Omogiate expressed shock that all those involved in the shoddy deals in the supply of some of the equipment are walking freely in the streets and therefore called on the operatives to act fast by arresting them.
Some of the placards read; “APC under President Bihari is against corruption”, EFCC bring back our tax payers money,” Oshiomhole has been indicted, EFCC charge him now,” Oshiomhole must be brought to justice”, and several others. It will be recalled that the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the construction of the Edo Specialist Hospital and supply of equipment for the hospital has indicted the administration of former Governor of the State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for breach of the state’s Public Procurement Law.

Chairman of the Commission, Justice James Oyomire (rtd), who presented the commission’s findings to Governor Godwin Obaseki, at Government House, in Benin City, on Thursday, said the award of the contract for the construction of the hospital was fraught with breaches of the state’s procurement laws.
Omogiate said,”We want to register our grievances over the multi billion naira project which four years ago the past administration had claimed they have paid for the equipment. As we are speaking now, the equipment have not been supplied and the person they paid the money to is walking freely.
“There is a committee set up to investigate this and they have come out with their report and it indicated Oshiomhole, the former governor and up till now the EFCC is yet to act. We are here to ask them to do their job, nobody is bigger than the law. “
